Mercedes-Benz Thermostat FAQ

How Can I Tell if the Thermostat in My Mercedes-Benz is Faulty?

Look for the signs. They include a Check Engine light on the dash, the engine and AC and heating not running right, and the temperature gauge on the dash not reading constant (i.e., its needle not being dead-center or in the slightly cold range. Other symptoms of thermostat failure include warped hoses and gaskets, a stuck valve, and coolant not moving through the cooling system (things like the radiator) the way it's supposed to.

How Do I Replace a Bad Car Thermostat?

It's fairly straightforward. All you'll need for the job is a drip pan, a ratchet, some pliers, a gasket, a metal scraper, and, of course, the thermostat and some fresh coolant. Just be sure to do repairs with a cool engine; a hot one can mean serious burns. If you're not quite sure how to go about it, a Mercedes-Benz dealer can help.
