How to Replace Your Mercedes-Benz Radiator DIY

If the radiator in your Mercedes-Benz is bad, don't worry: changing it is straightforward. The job calls for only a handful of tools.

Follow These 8 Easy Steps

1. Find and remove the drain plug at the bottom of the radiator. If there isn't one, find and remove the lower radiator hose. Drain the radiator fluid into the drain pan.
2. Take off the main upper and lower coolant hoses; they're connected to the radiator. Disconnect the transmission fluid lines, but don't drain their fluid.
3. Take the fan shroud and fan off the radiator.
4. Take the radiator off, including its rubber mounts and bushings and any other fasteners it has.
5. If the thermostat's faulty, remove and replace it. This job can be complicated, so it's optional unless necessary. If you're not sure what to do, get help from the pros at a Mercedes-Benz service center.
6. Put the new radiator, the fan, and the shroud back on, and reconnect and clamp the coolant hoses.
7. Refill the coolant, either through the radiator cap or the coolant reservoir.
8. Bleed the cooling system if needed.
