Mercedes-Benz Belts & Hoses FAQ

When Should the Belts and Hoses in a Mercedes-Benz be Replaced?

When you see signs they're defective, and/or before too many go bad at once. Otherwise, when you hit the mileage and year benchmarks in your owner's manual. For serpentine belts, for example, that's every 90,000 miles. For timing belts, it's every 60,000 to 90,000 miles, and for hoses, it's every 4 years. Timing chains, however, may not need changing during an engine's lifetime (unless they break).

What are the Symptoms of Belt and Hose Failure?

Obvious looseness or damage, fluid leaks, screeching or chirping noises, battery and lighting trouble, and engine overheats and misfires.

How Much Does Mercedes-Benz Belt & Hose Replacement Cost on Average?

It depends on the belt or hose, on whether you have the job done at a Mercedes-Benz dealer, and on the model you drive. Serpentine belts and brake hoses can run a couple hundred dollars; other belts and hoses are often pricier. Fuel hoses, for example, can run $500 plus, while radiator hoses may run $540 to $620 or more, timing belts might run upwards of $1,100, and so on.
