Mercedes-Benz CL 65 AMG® Performance Mods FAQ
How Much Horsepower Does the V12 BiTurbo in CL 65 AMG® Have?
That depends on what year we're talking. The twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter, 12-cylinder from 2013 or 2014, for example, gets 621 horsepower, driven by 738 pound-feet of torque. One from between 2008 and 2010, however, gets only 604 horsepower.
My CL 65 AMG® is from Before 2013. Can I Upgrade to a Twin-Turbo V12?
Yes, but buying a new engine can cost an arm and a leg (to say nothing of having it installed at a Mercedes-Benz service center). You can get closer to 2013-and-later horsepower and torque ratings doing a few simple mods: for one, putting in a supercharger, and secondly, swapping out the factory air intake for a cold air intake. Third, you'll want to get rid of the stock engine air filter and put in a performance air filter instead.
What this will do is help enrich the engine's ratio of air to fuel by enabling it to draw in cooler, denser, freer-flowing, and so, higher-quality air, with just the right balance of flow and filtration. This makes for a better burn and can give the car at least a few more horses and pound-feet in the process. Moreover, it'll do it relatively efficiently. The result: a ride that's a little more exciting.
Should I Use OEM Parts for Performance Upgrades, or Aftermarket?
OEM are the better choice, as Mercedes-Benz designs and builds them. They'll fit right and work better. Plus, they won't void your factory warranty and make you responsible for repairs down the road, unlike some aftermarket parts.
