What are Some Common Mercedes-Benz C 55 AMG® Problems?
Your C 55 AMG® is more than just another Mercedes-Benz luxury sedan. With a 5.4-liter V8 paired with a five-speed automatic, capable of shelling out a blistering 362 horsepower backed by 376 pound-feet of torque, it's a performance monster -- one capable of zero to 60 mph in just under 5 seconds. At $60,000 back in the 2000s, it was -- and still is -- an investment worth maintaining.
To do that, stay on top of the following common problems.
1. Faulty Engine
If the engine in your C 55 AMG® cranks when it's warm but won't start, if it runs rough, and if it underperforms, then moist likely, it's got a failed crankshaft position sensor. This is a known issue for models from 2005 and 2006 with 45,000 miles or fewer. The sensor will have to be replaced.
2. Bad Transmission
If the transmission in your C 55 AMG® is a seven-speed automatic and it's shifting roughly, then most likely, one or another part of the gearbox is faulty. This is a known issue for models from '05 and '06 with 74,000 miles or fewer. You'll have to take the transmission apart, replace the problematic parts, and put everything back together.
3. Failed Catalytic Converter
If the Check Engine light has come on the dash of your C 55 AMG®, the most likely explanation is a cat converter problem. This is a known issue for models from 2005-2006 with 108,000 miles or fewer. The converted needs to be replaced.
