How to Install a No-Drill Adhesive Spoiler on a Mercedes-Benz

The job's easy, and it goes pretty quickly. All you'll need to put one on your trunk, in most cases, is some paint prep, like isopropyl alcohol, a couple cleaning cloths, a tape measure, some masking tape, and a silicone-based sealing caulk. Here's how to do it; just be sure to do it when temps are in the 70s Fahrenheit or thereabouts, for best results.

  1. Wash the trunk lid with soap and water, and dry it.
  2. Use the alcohol/paint prep to get rid of any remaining grease, wax, or other residue.
  3. Follow any directions from Mercedes-Benz to put on the spoiler tape. Leave the layer that protects the sticky part on, and apply silicone adhesive as needed.
  4. Position the spoiler on the trunk, and make sure both sides of it are even using the tape measure. Make a guide for where it'll go using the masking tape. (Don't tape the spoiler down, though; this is for reminding you where the spoiler's going.)
  5. Peel an inch or so of each piece of the spoiler tape away. Put the spoiler back inside the masking tape guide, and then pull the rest of the spoiler tape away, without moving the spoiler.
  6. Once all the tape's off, make sure the spoiler's flush with the trunk, and press it firmly and evenly. Take off the masking tape guides and let the adhesive set 12 hours or so. In the meantime, don't wash your vehicle, wax it, or drive it.

These steps can vary; consult your owner's documentation for specifics. If you're not sure how to go about things, a Mercedes-Benz service center can help.
