Installing incompatible accessories, jump-starting wrong, and damaged or worn-out alternator parts, usually (a bad voltage regulator, for instance, or a faulty rectifier, a failed stator, or even a stretched or broken pulley).
What are the Signs the Alternator in My Mercedes-Benz is Failing?
They include:
- The battery not charging/a dead battery
- Battery and/or alternator warnings on the dash
- The electrical systems (instrumentation, power windows, windshield wipers, electronics, power steering, etc.) not running
- The car lights malfunctioning
- The engine squeaking
- A burning smell around the battery or alternator
- A fluid leak from the alternator
